Taunton Bowling Club Given £1000 Boost
A Taunton bowling club with 450 members has been given a £1,000 boost by a leading housebuilder.
Thriving Taunton Deane Bowling Club, on Blackbrook Way, has received the generous donation from Persimmon Homes South West as part of the housebuilder’s Community Champions scheme.
Each month the Exeter-based business donates up to £2,000 to charities and community groups within its operating area.
Mark Reeve, of the 107-year-old club, said: “We are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes for this wonderful donation. We have six indoor and six outdoor rinks . We’re run completely by volunteers and open seven days a week. Our membership includes two England bowlers, wheelchair users, a visually impaired section and a thriving junior group. New members are always welcome and we provide free coaching.”
“We have to raise around £140,000 each year to cover the costs of running the club. Finding sponsors and receiving generous donations like this are important to keep the club going.”
Persimmon Homes has 28 regional businesses across Great Britain. This year alone the builder has donated more than £500,000 to good causes.
Nina Hester, sales and marketing director at Persimmon Homes South West, said: “We are delighted to hand over this money to Taunton Deane Bowling Club.
“The club is very well used with people playing bowls all year round. That comes at a huge expense.
“We are committed to helping good causes in the towns and cities in which we are building. We have enjoyed huge success in Taunton in recent years at our Heathfield Gardens development and we have recently launched our new Abbeyvale site.
“This is another example of Persimmon giving something back.”
There is a range of two, three and four bedroom homes available at Abbeyvale, on Bishops Hull Road, with prices starting at £254,995.
