Club News

We have created this page to showcase the latest club news and hope that you will return often to see what is new in the club. We are enjoying a vibrant and successful season, with members taking part in an exciting mix of matches, social events, and competitions. Our indoor and outdoor rinks have been buzzing with activity, and it’s been fantastic to welcome new bowlers discovering the sport for the first time. Whether you’re a seasoned competitor or taking your first steps on the green, there’s always something happening at the club.

Alongside competitive play, we offer a full calendar of social activities and friendly fixtures. Roll‑ups, coaching sessions, and special club events all contribute to a lively and inclusive atmosphere. We’re deeply grateful to our volunteers, committee members, and supporters, whose hard work keeps everything running smoothly.

This page highlights all current announcements, upcoming events, and the latest news from around the club.

Changes to Payments at the Bar

From 5th October, any transactions made at the tills in the Bar area will ONLY be possible via Card.

You will still be able to buy Rink vouchers etc or even pay your membership, but no cash will be accepted. This process is being brought in to make it much easier for any new Bar Staff who come forwards to join the staff.

For events where the Kitchen is open for Food and Tea/Coffee etc, cash will still be accepted in that area.

We are still investigating the possibilities of using cards for the drinks machine but this is currently not possible for reasons beyond our control.

Maintenance Volunteers Needed

The club would be pleased to receive any offers of help from people with the following skills:

  • Painting and Decorating
  • Plumbing
  • Portable Appliance Testing
  • Carpentry
  • Electrical
  • General DIY skills to put up signs, minor repairs etc.

We are looking to redecorate many areas over the next few years and to employ external contractors would use a substantial amount of our funds.

We also have occasional plumbing issues which need resolving quickly to ensure our facilities are maintained at a high standard

An hour here and there can make all the difference and will ensure we keep our running costs low and our subs as low as possible too.

If you can offer any help please email maintenance@tdbowls.com

Indoor Bowling Shoes – Essential Guidance

Indoor bowling shoe

To protect our indoor rinks and maintain the highest playing standards, all members must follow these rules:

  • Indoor bowling shoes must never be worn outside the Club. If you see someone stepping out of their car already wearing their bowls shoes or going outside the main doors to smoke or vape while still wearing them, please remind them that this is not permitted.
  • Indoor rinks require completely smooth, flat, non‑marking soles. Any ripples, grooves or textured patterns can trap grit or debris, which may scuff, mark, or damage the delicate carpet surface.
  • Hybrid bowling trainers (including certain models from Henselite or Drakes Pride) may feature a fine micro‑grip or near‑smooth profile designed for both indoor and outdoor use. However, extra care is needed to ensure no outdoor dirt becomes lodged in the deeper tread areas.

  • Indoor bowls shoes must have a one‑piece, heel‑less flat sole.
  • Soles must be made from non‑marking rubber to ensure the carpet remains clean and undamaged.
  • Indoor bowls shoes should never be worn outdoors under any circumstances, as even tiny stones or traces of mud can be transferred onto the indoor carpet.
